INGREDIENTS:
1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
1 ½ cups premade biscuit mix (Bisquick or any other)
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, finely diced
1 large tomato, diced
2 cups water, divided
2 tbsp taco seasoning mix
2 tbsp mayonnaise
⅓ cup sour cream
¾ cup cheddar cheese, shredded
HOW TO MAKE THIS JOHN WAYNE CASSEROLE:
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Step 2.Grease a 9×13 baking pan with cooking spray.
Step 3. Add 1 cup of water and the Bisquick biscuit mix in a mixing bowl and stir to combine.
Step 4. Place a skillet over medium heat and cook lean ground beef until browned.
Step 5. Drain excess grease and add in remaining water and taco seasoning, reduce heat, and allow the mixture to simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 6. Add sour cream, mayonnaise, half of the chopped onion, and shredded Cheddar Cheese in a bowl and mix well.
Step 7.Press and layer 1/2” of Bisquick Biscuit Mix into the pan for a crust and add the seasoned ground beef layer.
Step 8.Top with diced tomatoes, sautéed remaining onion, and bell pepper.
Step 9.Spread the mayonnaise mixture evenly over the top.
Step 10.Sprinkle remaining shredded Cheddar Cheese on top. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven at 350°F and bake for 35 minutes.
Step 11. Once done, take the dish out of the oven and leave to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Step 12. Serve with salsa, sour cream, or guacamole.
