INGREDIENTS:
1 cup Great Northern Beans
1 Ham Hock, Smoked
1 small Onion, chopped
2 tbsp Brown Sugar
¼ tsp black Pepper
Salt, to taste
HOW TO MAKE CROCKPOT GREAT NORTHERN BEANS AND HAM :
Step 1. Rinse the beans under cold water in a strainer.
Step 2. Place the rinsed beans in the crockpot and add the smoked ham hock, brown sugar, and finely chopped onion.
Step 3. Fill the crockpot with water until the beans are covered by at least 2 inches.
Step 4. Set the crockpot temperature to high and cook for 2 hours.
Step 5. After 2 hours, reduce the crockpot temperature to low and continue to cook for an additional 4- 5 hours or until beans are tender.
Step 6.Carefully open the lid of the crockpot and remove the ham hock from the beans.
Step 7. Shred the meat from the ham hock and return it to the crock pot, stirring it well to distribute it evenly.
Step 8. Taste and season with additional salt and pepper if needed.
Step 9. Spoon the beans into serving bowls and serve hot.
